About Us

Louise, Alex and Stella moved to Lincolnshire in 2022 with the sole intention of creating a more home like camping experience. The idea is that staying in one of our vehicles is more like hiring a cottage than being in a tent.

Louise grew up in south London. Her family is a large, tight knit gang and spent lots of time when they were kids camping together. It was a mainstay of many summer holiday. Lou is very good at crafting and you will find most of the decorating and soft furnishing down to her hands.

Alex was a proud member of the scouting movement as a kid. Being a bit of a hippy at heart the first vehicle he purchased was a 1973 VW Panel van just before his 19th birthday. He has owned a VW Baywindow in one shape or another ever since. He spent most of his 20’s in a field with a bunch of other VW enthusiasts. Alex is the practical side of things and loves nothing more than riding around cutting the grass on his vintage Simplicity Cavalier Mower.

We have been together since 2011, the majority of our trips and holidays together have been spent camping, from a tent at the Le Mans Classic, to running in a new engine around Devon and Cornwall. We were married in 2016 and as you might have guessed, this too was in a field surrounded by friends and family camping together.

Realising we wanted to work for ourselves and create something, we spent 8 months travelling back and forth from the south coast to view properties in Lincolnshire before falling in love with the plot that now is The Layby Lincs. We feel massively fortunate to live in such a beautiful spot.

We hope to welcome you soon!

Our ethos has been centred around repurposing, recycling and trying to be as sustainable as possible.

All the power on site is generated by our 96 solar panels and then stored in our 24 batteries. In 2024, we didn't use any mains electricity at all between February the 23rd and September the 17th. During the winter months we generate about 2/3rds of our energy requirements.

A less glamourous subject is waste. Our non-electric sewage treatment plant uses a waste coconut husk medium to help breed good bacteria and filter the water that gets discharged. It's got one of the best ratings you can get and outperforms most other treatment plants.

All of the duvets and pillows we use are from a company that recycle old material and feathers. This means less going to landfill and you get a quality nights sleep thanks to a premium product made here in the UK.

All of our vehicles have been repurposed giving them a new lease on life. We feel that using old vehicles is far better for the environment as we have saved them from being scrapped.

The interiors are full of items we have sourced from swap meets and markets, again ensuring items are given another life and they add a real interest.

We provide a recycling bin and encourage all our guests to use these as much as possible to reduce the amount of general waste going off to landfill.
